From reality television darling to fashion designer and best-selling book author, Lauren Conrad lands on Celebuzz’s Hollywood Power Index at No. 28.
The celebprenuer, who first found fame on MTV’s Laguna Beach, nabbed headlines aplenty when she moved to The Hills, thanks to her infamous feuds with frenemy Heidi Montag and her nemesis, Spencer Pratt. The series — which fetched up to four million viewers a week at the peak of its fame — was a success for MTV and for Conrad. Managing to emerge from reality TV practically unscathed, the star parlayed her fame into a growing a empire.
After the debut of The Hills, it didn’t take long for the offers to start pouring in. The aspiring fashion designer inked deals with Linea Pelle for a collection of handbags and became the face of Avon’s “mark” brand. In 2009, Conrad made her debut as an author with L.A. Candy, the first in a three-part series of New York Times best-selling novels. That same year, she launched LC Lauren Conrad for Kohl’s – an affordable line of dresses and knits that has since expanded into a full-fledged line that includes shoes and accessories.
Thanks to the launch of two successful Web sites — TheBeautyDepartment.com and LaurenConrad.com — as well as multiple brand and endorsement deals, Conrad was tapped to pen a her very own “celebpreneur” column for Forbes.com in June 2011.
Serving as an authoritative voice for the publication’s Web site, Conrad outlined her struggles, processes and triumphs as a young entrepreneur.
“While the future is bright, I cannot forget the missteps I have made along the way,” Conrad wrote in her guest blog. “My mistakes ended up teaching me the most invaluable lessons, which have molded me into the businesswoman I am today.”
