A multi-million dollar book deal, a big screen debut and two Golden Globes. In other words: It’s been a big year for Lena Dunham, which is exactly why the actress and Girls creator makes Celebuzz’s Hollywood Power Index at no. 29.
The star got her first big break after receiving an email from Superbaddirector Judd Apatow. “Judd saw a movie I made called Tiny Furniture,” she said. “Then he got involved with a pilot that I was writing for HBO.”
Now the hit cable series Girls has made Dunham a two-time Golden Globe winner. At this year’s award show, the actress scored trophies for Best TV Comedy or Musical and beat out Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Zooey Deschanel for Best Actress in a TV Comedy.
“This award is for every woman who felt like there wasn’t a space for her,” Dunham said in her acceptance speech. “This show has made a space for me.”
The Girls star added another feather to her cap in October when she inked a deal with Random House for a reported $3.7 million.
“Her skill on the page as a writer is remarkable—fresh, wise, so assured,” the publisher said in a statement on the tentatively titled, Not That Kind of Girl: A Young Woman Tells You What She’s Learned. “She is that rare literary talent that will only grow from strength to strength and we look forward to helping her build a long career as an author.”
In December, Dunham added yet another accomplishment to her resume, making her major motion picture acting debut. Joining Apatow’s all-star cast, Dunham plays Cat – a record label employee who works to keep Pete’s (Paul Rudd) struggling business afloat – in This Is 40.
